With the development of new cutting-edge diagnostic and technological tools for chronic disease, Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions have unveiled a new in-vitro diagnostic test kit for detecting the HLAB27 gene in Ankylosing spondylitis. AS is an inflammatory condition affecting the spine by reducing flexibility, damaging the posture, and promoting immobility. A total of 0.5% of the Indians are currently affected by the condition.

An under-diagnosed condition, AS is more prominent in individuals with the HLA B27 positive gene with symptoms developing between the age of 20-and 30 years. Hasmukh Rawal, Founder, and MD, of Mylab Discovery Solutions, stated that the gene has been found in more than 90% of the affected Indian population. However, the most alarming issue was the detection of the gene in the young adult population. He added that early detection and treatment can prevent the progression of the disease. He expressed that the accuracy and robustness of the kit help in advancing the diagnostic method and provides evidence-based intervention and treatment directions.

The test consists of a reagent necessary to detect the presence of all the known genes, identifying a broad spectrum of known genes and subtypes in comparison to other kits available on the market. The kit has a run time of 80 minutes with high processing output of 90 samples in a single run.
